I didn't get the joke.

My son showed me a video on his phone, but clearly I didn't get the joke. 🤣

Instead three days later I found myself building a Morse code USB keyboard. As you press the button you get "." and "-" displayed. When you pause, it sends backspaces to erase the dots and dashes and replaces with the corresponding character.

When I asked him where the original video was so I could give credit to the original author for the idea, he informed me that it was a video on the ifunny (joke) web site.

I followed the table at https://morsecode.world/international/morse2.html for letters, numbers, symbols; so it should be fairly standard. I ended up making up my own code for things like toggling CAPS LOCK key (dash, dot, dot, dash, dash) which quickly shows a "^" or "v" to tell you if its upper or lower case, before deleting that character as well.

I quickly learned some things like Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C don't work as you would want (Ctrl+A selects everything then the first "-" you type erases everything and replaces it with a "-" way before you type out the Ctrl+C code.) I guess we could invent a new code that represents Ctrl+A/Ctrl+C. Around this point is when I found out it was a joke web site video and not necessarily the next amazing USB gadget.

Anyway, my son just shook his head and went back to watching his funny videos. Oh well, it was a fun Thursday project and cost under $15 to make.
